Voluntary Car Travel

Need help with travel to a hospital appointment?

Our volunteering team will drop you off at your appointment and wait for up to 90 minutes.

Schedule early, up to months in advance!

The driver will collect you generally an hour before your hospital appointment time, they will wait for up to an hour and a half. We may ask you to ask the hospital how long you will be for your appointment, we may ask you to explain to the hospital that you are using community transport.

Going to be longer than 90 minutes?

No problem! Our volunteer team will leave you their number and will pick you up for the return journey upon your call.

FAQ:

How much does it cost?

The office will charge you an admin fee at the time of booking these journeys (this is to cover some of the cost for phone calls / emails / printing) You would then pay £0.50 per mile directly to the volunteer. This charge starts from the driver’s home. This is to cover some of their fuel expenses.

Where do we travel to?

This service is used to travel to accommodate hospital appointments at Southmead Hospital, The Bristol Royal Infirmary, Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, Bristol Eye Hospital and Bristol Dental Hospital to name a few. We also use the Voluntary Car service for specialist journeys that may fall outside of our Ring and Ride area, for example, funerals or visiting friends or family.

Is it safe?

Absolutely! All of our Volunteers have had a DBS check and we check their driving licenses every 6 months. They also all agree to our Voluntary Car Driver Charter which you can view below.
